Rainfall Utilization

With surface irrigation systems, what happens when a rainfall event occurs? You have translocation and run off. With subsurface drip irrigation, the surface of the ground remains dry, so, during a rainfall event, you may be able to capture an inch or more of rainfall before you get run off. By capturing this rainfall your system can be off for a longer period of time after the rainfall event is over. Along with that, the dry surface is less likely to germinate weeds and also less susceptible to diseases in the crop.
